Hey Gays! I’m pleased to announce a new showcase of improv and comedy at Chicago’s premiere improv theatre iO. Ladies and Gentlemen and Lady-Gentlemen, it’s: Qweirdo!

Qweirdo is a recurring showcase of Chicago’s top gay comedians and improvisers coming together on Thursdays to make you laugh in the way that only your gay best friend can. The anchor improv team (not a sailor reference) is “1, 2, 3, Fag!” featuring John Hartman, Kellen Alexander, and me! We will invite different gay groups and solo acts to perform with us each Thursday.

In honor of June being Gay Pride Month, a portion of all ticket sales will go to Lambda Legal. Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work. More information about Lambda Legal can be found at www.lambdalegal.org.

FIRST Qweirdo PERFORMANCE:

iO (Upstairs in the Del Close Theatre)

Featuring:

“1, 2, 3, Fag!”

Seth Dodson is the current Impress These Apes Champion. He currently performs at iO with the Harold team Mrs. Dad and with Big Yellow Bus at the Playground Theatre. You can see him co-host The Show ‘N Tell Show Talk Show in ‘mom drag’ at The Whistler. Seth also gets his kicks by performing with the National Touring Company of Mission Improvable and GayCo.

John Hartman was a main stage cast member of the Improv Inferno in Ann Arbor, MI before moving to Chicago. He has been seen in Photobooth and White Jazz at The Annoyance Theatre, where he recently mounted his first solo show, Your Friends and Enemies. He improvises at The Playground with Victory at Sea, around town with Alright, Janice! and Attila, and at the Apollo Theater with the fine folks of Baby Wants Candy.

Kellen Alexander can be seen with his teams Dart at the iO; Victory at Sea and Alright, Janice at the Playground; as well as with “The Blog Report.” Kellen recently co-wrote and directed “Intense Designs: Jewelry by Zelda and Marie” for the Triple Feature program at the Annoyance Theater.

Together they are ‘1, 2, 3, Fag!’

The Alliance is Chicago’s premier gay/straight sketch group. In April, the group produced its debut sketch revue, “Gayrilla Warfare,” which was a Metromix/RedEye Best Bet. Lampooning everything from Liza Manelli to Internet dating, the group blends sketch, song and improv to form a fabulous Cosmpolitan of comedy. The Alliance is Sommer Austin, Keith Ecker, Meredith Melville and Patrick Serrano. John Loos directs.

The Gerald: The Harold’s Gay Brother. Gays and lesbians make up a large contingent of iO’s House Harold improv teams. They are gathered here tonight to perform together for the first time in the original form The Gerald. It is a lot like a iO’s signature form the Harold, but much much gayer!
